Gluteal Repair and Reconstruction
Gluteal Repair and Reconstruction
Gluteus medius and minimus tendon tears are a frequent and underdiagnosed cause of lateral hip pain, a condition that can become highly debilitating, leading to weakness, limping, and reduced quality of life. Often mistaken for simple trochanteric bursitis, these tears may not respond to physiotherapy or injections alone.
When conservative treatments fail, surgical repair or reconstruction can restore tendon function, relieve pain, and improve stability. I offer both minimally invasive repair and open reconstruction in more complex or chronic cases, sometimes using biological or synthetic grafts for reinforcement.
This procedure is especially recommended in patients with persistent abductor weakness, gait disturbance, or complications after previous hip surgery.
Properly performed, gluteal repair can significantly improve function, reduce limping, and help patients return to a more active lifestyle.
